This is actually not an uncommon problem and I agree that you shouldn’t leave town for that amount of time without a backup plan just in case. While it is unlikely there will be a valid reason to remove the lock, better safe then sorry. Here’s a couple suggestions:
1 – Do you have a girlfriend who lives close by that you trust enough to hold the key? This would mean you’d have to confide in her the whole situation. She’ll likely get a kick out of it, but that’s a big step. In addition to solving the current dilemma, it will also add to his humiliation and deepen his submission to you. Imagine how he’d feel knowing another woman knows of his “status”. If that won’t work keep reading.
2 – Fill a tupperware with water. Put the key in it then put it in the freezer. Once it is frozen, take it out. Etch your initials or any other design into the ice, then put it back in the freezer. If an emergency happened, he could either smash the ice or melt the ice and get the key. Obviously, you’ll expect the frozen cube to be just as you left it when you get home. Because of the etching you put on the ice, you will know as soon as you got home if he cheated.
3 – Similar to two, put the key in a regular envelope. Seal the envelope then melt wax over it. Take a picture of it with your phone. He will not be able to access the envelope without damaging the wax, and you’ll know as soon as he got home if he cheated.
